Rain, Rain, Go Away

Another damp, dark, dreary day here in Pa. A day off and I want outside. It is may and I have flowers to plant, weeds to hoe, fountains to fix, gazebos to stain, etc etc etc. When is this rain going to end? We have all noticed at work how cranky people are getting. Everyone wants outside to be doing things and it just isn't happening. We seem to be stuck in April, the beginning of April actually. Only hope is that it gets nice and stays nice well into about December. Wish my kids could box me up some heat and sunshine and ship it my way.

In Memory

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean.
She is an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.
Then someone at my side says: “There, she is gone!””Gone where?”Gone from my sight.
That is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.
Her diminished size is in me, not in her. And just at the moment when someone at my side says: “There, she is gone!” there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout: ‘Here she comes!”
And that is dying.

Don't Quit

When things go wrong as they sometimes will. When the road you're trudging seems all uphill. When funds are low and the debts are high. And you want to smile, but you have to sigh. When care is pressing you down a bit. Rest, if you must, but don't you quit Life is queer with its twists and turns. As everyone of us sometimes learns.
